Strong demand

The pharmacy sales market remains positive, according to the latest pharmacy market sentiment report, says Natalie Sirianni

The third iteration of the Attain Pharmacy Market Sentiment Report has revealed a continuing positive market sentiment, with many looking to purchase a pharmacy in the near future.

The results from the March 2021 Pharmacy Market Sentiment Survey show that the pharmacy business sales market continues to be quite strong, and indicates that this will likely continue.

The results show very strong buyer demand and that supply of pharmacies on the market is likely to increase within the next six months.

Some of the key results from the survey include:

  • Over 60% of the sample (both pharmacists and current pharmacy owners) say they are looking to buy a pharmacy or another pharmacy.
  • 18.5% of the sample are looking to buy a pharmacy within the next 6 months
  • Approximately 37% of pharmacy owners in the sample will be looking to sell their pharmacy
(or one of) within the next 5 years.
  • Just over 10% plan to bring in a junior partner instead of selling
  • 59.3% of the sample believe that pharmacy business prices will increase over the next 12
months, however approximately 33% believe they will stay flat

The top three locations for those looking to purchase a pharmacy are:

  1. Strip Location
  2. Small Shopping Centre
  3. Medical Centre Locations

Overall, these results show positive market sentiment for the Pharmacy Business Sales market from both buyers and sellers. We hope that pharmacists throughout Australia will be able to use this data to assist with their decision making when it comes to buying or selling a pharmacy.

The survey will continue to be run every 4 months to track the market sentiment and the pharmacy business sales market trends. The survey is completed by pharmacists and pharmacy owners throughout Australia.

Attain is pleased with the increased response as the Attain Pharmacy Market Sentiment Report gains momentum as a leading indicator for market activity and sentiment.
