Capital Chemist Wanniassa and Lanyon Pharmacy in Conder, both from ACT, are joint winners of the GuildCare Pharmacy of the Year Award
The two winners were named this evening at the welcome reception for this year’s Australian Pharmacy Professional Conference (APP) held in the Gold Coast.
Honor Penprase, partner at the Capital Chemist Wanniassa, said her pharmacy team was “really grateful for the recognition of all our hard work, especially over the last 12 months”.
The pharmacy was also a runner-up in the Pharmacy Guild’s own Pharmacy of the Year competition.
“It’s a big achievement for our team, and this has been a real team effort.
“Professional services are a big focus for us, and we believe they’re vital for the viability of pharmacy moving forward.”
Business partner Elise Apolloni told the AJP that the pharmacy’s surge in professional services has been “massive”.
“We’ve completely changed our culture around professional services and now, if we didn’t record it, it didn’t happen,” she said.
Mark Leighton, of joint winner Lanyon Pharmacy in Conder, said he was “surprised and pleased” to win the GuildCare Pharmacy of the Year award.
“We really believe in doing not just one or two things, but a whole range of services,” he said.
“Different pharmacists have different interests in professional services – mine is asthma. Other pharmacists like medicines reviews and MedsChecks.
“We’ve also been using GuildCare with our students, showing them how to use the platform and that they’re not going to be spending their lives handing out boxes full of pills; getting involved with professional services is what it’s going to be like for them as a pharmacist.”
