Former APPCo board member and ad man passes away
Former Australian Pharmaceutical Publishing Company board member, retail advertising guru David Mattingly has passed away.
In the late 1960s, Mattingly was director of advertising and sales at GTV9 Melbourne and was responsible for securing ads for iconic programs such as Graham Kennedy’s In Melbourne Tonight.
He launched his own ad agency MDA Mattingly, and was appointed by Myer to handle all of its print and catalogue work.
He was the only Australian inducted into the US Retail Advertising Hall of Fame.
Following his retirement in 1998, he served on a number of company boards and as consultant to a number of ad agencies.
He was a director of APPCo, publishers of AJP from 2004 to 2014 and was awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in this year’s Australia Day Honours.
Mattingly is survived by his wife, Ann, and sons Stephen and Andrew.
A service is understood to be being planned for next Wednesday, September 21.
