New education initiatives

Dr Dmitri Kopanakis has had a busy first few months as CEO of the Australasian College of Pharmacy. Here he talks to AJP about three exciting new launches by the College

Dr Dmitri Kopanakis joined the Australasian College of Pharmacy early in 2021.

He and College President Michelle Bou-Samra have overseen the development and launch of a number of exciting new initiatives for the College this year.

Dr Kopanakis visited the AJP stage during APP2021 to talk about three new initiatives launched in that very week:

  • A pharmacy assistant training course enabling PAs to better support their pharmacy team to perform vaccinations
  • An MBA program developed in partnership with the University of Sydney Business School
  • The World Pharmacy Council Scholarship program

In the video, Dr Kopanakis talks about each of these, and invites interested pharmacists to visit the College website for more information and to register interest.

He also talks about his vision of the College being “the pre-eminent provider of clinical and business information across pharmacy.

For us it’s not about focusing on one key area of education, rather allowing education across all levels of pharmacy, with the College providing everything from CPD education, webinars, various articles and other levels of connectivity with members,” he said.

“The College has a lot of connectivity with our members. We have over 40 years of history, we have a wonderful member base, we also have incredible opportunity… whether its short courses, webinars.. .but also with moves for pharmacists to be working at their full scope, it’d be wonderful for the College to play a major role in facilitating that.”
