Forum: PBS de-listing of solid dose oral iron

“A no-doubt ‘unintended’ consequence of this pathetic PBS penny-pinching that I came across today was a GP surgery that has taken to buying Ferro-f tabs to give to its pregnant CTG patients.  As the practice nurse rather matter-of-fact-ly put it,

Well, it makes a lot more sense than trying to deal with the consequences of an iron-deficient mother and baby.

So now health professionals are consciously choosing to subsidise the essential health care of their most vulnerable patients because the government won’t.  Nicely emphasises just how pathetic the PBS has become I thought.

I’ve always been quite willing – proud even – to identify with and promote the aims of the PBS, but now I’m reconsidering.”
