Oral Anticoagulants and Proton Pump Inhibitor Cotherapy

Among patients initiating oral anticoagulant treatment, incidence of hospitalization for upper gastrointestinal tract bleeding was the highest in patients prescribed rivaroxaban, and the lowest for patients prescribed apixaban. For each anticoagulant, the incidence of hospitalization for upper gastrointestinal tract bleeding was lower among patients who were receiving PPI cotherapy.

Polyunsaturated fatty acids for the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease

A Cochrane review of 49 RCTS assessed the effects of increasing PUFA on cardiovascular disease, mortality, lipids or adiposity. Increasing PUFA intake probably slightly reduces risk of coronary heart disease and cardiovascular disease events, may slightly reduce risk of coronary heart disease mortality and stroke (though not ruling out harms), but has little or no effect on all‐cause or cardiovascular disease mortality. The mechanism may be via TG reduction.

Omega‐3 fatty acid addition during pregnancy

In a Cochrane review of 70 trials, preterm birth < 37 weeks and early preterm birth < 34 weeks were reduced in women receiving omega‐3 LCPUFA compared with no omega‐3. There was a possibly reduced risk of perinatal death and of neonatal care admission, a reduced risk of LBW babies; and possibly a small increased risk of LGA babies with omega‐3 LCPUFA.

Assessment of Efficacy and Tolerability of Medicinal Cannabinoids in Patients With Multiple Sclerosis

A systematic review and meta-analysis of 17 trials suggest a limited efficacy of cannabinoids for the treatment of spasticity, pain, and bladder dysfunction in patients with MS. Therapy using these drugs can be considered as safe, but their clinical benefit may be limited.
