Australians have been urged to bring any unused Bling Bling Sister BBS Superman capsules to their pharmacy for safe disposal
The TGA has announced that Bling Bling Sister BBS Superman capsules pose a serious health risk and are not to be taken.
The TGA tested the product and found that it contained the undeclared substances Sibutramine and Orlistat.
It warned consumers that Sibutramine is a prescription-only medicine (which was the active ingredient in Reductil).
“Sibutramine was withdrawn from the Australian market in October 2010 after a study showed an increased risk of major cardiac events,” it noted, adding that orlistat is pharmacist-only.
Thus the supply of Bling Bling Sister BBS Superman capsules containing the undisclosed Sibutramine and Orlistat is illegal.
The product has not been assessed by the TGA for quality, safety or efficacy as required under Australian legislation, and the place of manufacture is not approved by the TGA.
As well as bringing any unused capsules to local pharmacies for disposal, consumers are urged to talk to their health care practitioner about any concerns arising from their use of the product.
