Capital Chemist Wanniassa has added another high-profile award to its collection, taking out the 2017 Telstra ACT Small Business Award
Pharmacy partner Elise Apolloni says she was “shaking like a leaf” when she realised the pharmacy had won the coveted award, which was presented on Friday evening at a gala dinner.
“We had already briefed the staff and said not a lot was going to happen – we’re just going to go to a nice dinner,” Ms Apolloni told the AJP.
“We don’t get to do that often – we’re open till 10 every night, so we very rarely get all the core staff together socially, but we managed it. We wanted to have fun and learn about other cool things businesses are doing in the ACT.
“I’ve done a lot of speeches lately but I did not see this one coming. We were shaking like leaves up there!
“The team is all very excited. We couldn’t take them all to APP – we livestreamed it, but it wasn’t the same – so it was really exciting to have everyone there. There were lots of tears and hugs!”
Earlier this year the Wanniassa pharmacy won the Guild Pharmacy of the Year Professional Innovation category; was joint winner of GuildCare Pharmacy of the Year; and won Guild Intern Pharmacist of the Year (Morgan Kennedy).
It also won a Mental Health Week Award in October 2016.
Judges for the Telstra Small Business Award noted the pharmacy’s dedication to extended opening hours, its innovation in mental health care, its adaptation to technology, “and how we’re trying to push the pharmacy frontier”.
The pharmacy’s inclusive culture also gained judges’ approval.
