A Sydney security guard has been brutally bashed by an alleged shoplifter outside a Chemist Warehouse.

The Hornsby Advocate’s Nigel Gladstone reports that the 39-year-old security guard was left with “a fractured eye socket and a broken nose after being hit several times and has bleeding behind his eye which requires surgery”.

Police are closing in on the offender, who had allegedly been shoplifting, he reports.

Senior Constable Paul Cleary told the Advocate that Hornsby police are reviewing CCTV footage from inside the pharmacy as well as in the Hornsby mall.

Police are seeking a 22-year-old man from northwest Sydney, who they say may be able to help them with their enquiries.

Meanwhile the security guard, who was repeatedly struck in the face, is set to undergo surgery.
