The 2020 Pharmacy of the Year winner has been revealed
Capital Chemist Chisholm in the ACT has been named the Guild Pharmacy of the Year for 2020.
The pharmacy had previously been recognised with the award for Excellence in Business Management.
The pharmacy’s owner, Rebecca Young, said being named Pharmacy of the Year was both exciting and humbling.
“To be recognised as the Pharmacy of the Year is testament to all the work everyone in this pharmacy does every day, and to all our patients who make this work so rewarding,” she said.
“Every member of the staff here is a highly valued and integral part of the team. We consult with the team, listen to the team and work as a team and the results are clear in us being given this award.
“We have a very focussed policy of growing and innovating and the team is right behind this every step of the way.
“Our patients have also been supported us in our innovation and this is really rewarding.
“We will use this award as a basis to continue improving and growing.”
Nick Panayiaris, president of the the South Australian Pharmacy Guild and a spokesperson for the judging group, said Capital Chemist Chisholm was “an exemplar of the community pharmacy of the future.”
The pharmacy had “consistently sought to improve its services, performance and viability while maintaining its position as an integral part of the community it serves,” he said.
“This pharmacy has a very clear and researched understanding of its community from which it has developed a service tailored to the community’s needs. It has done this while also ensuring its business management strategies are second to none because it faces the need to constantly improve and evolve in the competitive market that community pharmacy is today”.
“It has also built these management practices around the pharmacy’s business and its professional service innovation which is another outstanding feature of the pharmacy.
Normally announced by the Minister for Health at the annual APP conference, this year’s announcement was deferred when the conference was cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The Guild is hopeful of holding a presentation later in the year.
The awards recognise excellence in pharmacy with the announcement of winners across three categories, one of which is named the Pharmacy of the Year.
The category winners for 2020 are:
- Excellence in Professional Innovation – Wizard Pharmacy Kalgoorlie Central
- Excellence in Community Engagement – Wheatbelt Health Centre Pharmacy
- Excellence in Business Management – Capital Chemist Chisholm
Jonathan Biddle, general manager of the award sponsor Care Pharmaceuticals said: “We are proud to be part of that profession and to be able, through the Pharmacy of the Year competition, to give back to that sector which is so much a part of our everyday business.”
“But today is about the success of community pharmacies which have excelled in all aspects of their clinical and business operations.
“These are the pharmacies of the future and models which others can emulate. The videos we have seen today give us a glimpse of what has made them so special and endeared by the people they serve.”
The award adds to a successful portfolio for the group, which has regularly won Pharmacy of the Year category awards, and has one previous Pharmacy of the Year winner (Capital Chemist Charnwood, in 2014).
