Call for submissions to the review of the National Medicines Policy

Health Minister Greg Hunt has commissioned a review of the National Medicines Policy (NMP) in recognition of the substantial changes to the health landscape since the policy was published in 2000.

Pharmacists Professor Lloyd Sansom AO and Dr Sarah Dineen-Griffin have been selected alongside consumer advocate Janette Donovan and pharmaceutical industry expert David Herd to form the Expert Advisory Committee to lead the review. Professor Michael Kidd, the Commonwealth’s Deputy Chief Medical Officer, is serving as Chair.

The NMP Review Committee is now welcoming submissions to support the Review.

“The primary purpose of this consultation process is to provide the Review Committee with an appreciation of the breadth of stakeholders’ views, to support a refresh of the NMP,” said the Department of Health.

A Discussion Paper has been prepared to provide context for the Review, and to encourage consideration of the issues the Review could address. The Discussion Paper includes a series of questions to help guide feedback. Stakeholders are also welcomed to respond directly to the Review’s Terms of Reference.

To access the Discussion Paper or the Terms of Reference, and to lodge a submission, please visit the Review of the NMP Public Consultation page.

The call for submissions will close at 23:30 AEST on Friday 8 October 2021.
