Students take the (virtual) stage

Students from Monash University’s Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences have been selected to present their research at the 2020 International Conference for Undergraduate Research

Encompassing a broad range of topics, students delivering a 10-minutem, presentation via video-linked sessions or a digital poster session with virtual voice-overs to universities around the world on September 29 – 30.

All students from the FPPS are in their fourth year of the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons)/Master of Pharmacy.

The ICUR was established through a collaboration between Monash University and the University of Warwick in 2013 and now annually includes up to thirteen institutions across five continents.

The primary purpose of the Conference is to foster international connections and interdisciplinary conversations between undergraduates and partner institutions.

Associate Professor Kirstie Galbraith, Director of Experiential Development and Graduate Education for the FPPS and one of this years ICUR student research supervisors says: “The ICUR is a fantastic opportunity for students – it provides a rigorous yet supportive forum for them to engage in global research dialogue, discuss ideas and receive feedback from their peers.”

“On behalf of the Faculty I would like to congratulate the talented students who have been selected to present their work at this year’s ICUR – despite the challenges 2020 has presented across the globe, these students have risen to the challenge and we look forward to watching them share their research via a global forum.”

Students representing the FPPS in 2020, along with their areas of research, include:

  • Learning strategies in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences: A topic model of student action plans on skill development – Shahad Saleh, Georgia Louise Essex, and Joanne Ru Yan Law
  • Pharmacy Student Challenges and Strategies Towards COVID-19 Curriculum Changes – Luyao Liu, Geenath Neviles, Ruohern Khoo, Claire Ashley Simpson, and Sithira Wathsala Muthumuni
  • Evaluation of the skills coaching program amongst pharmacy students and educators – Richa Rajesh Dudhani, Jasmin Pradhan, Vivian Tuong Vi Dinh
  • Student expectations of the impact that the completed Monash MClinPharm course will have on their professional performance – Emma Buttolph, Helen Liang, Desiree Santos Rodrigues, Yin Leung, Leon Polychronopoulos
  • Placement supervisor perceptions of student skills and professional behaviours – Da Sol Lee, Ethel Xin Qian Hon, Lim

This year, each ICUR spoken presentation session will host four students, each delivering a presentation on their research, followed by five minutes of individual question time for each presenter.

ICUR 2020 also features a digital international poster session, with students submitting their posters with virtual voice-overs.

Each poster will include a live question and answer session, being conducted through the ICUR App.
