Events during lockdown

With Sydney, and some other parts of Australia, enduring a renewed lockdown, what’s the latest news on upcoming pharmacy events?

The ongoing COVID-19 lockdowns affecting different parts of Australia during winter 2021 have again played havoc with planned pharmacy events.

PSA21 goes virtual

Given the current restrictions in place in NSW and across other states, the PSA Board has decided to transition PSA21 to a full virtual conference.

“Although we will not be able to meet in person this year, we still encourage you to come together at PSA21 to connect with your tribe online,” PSA said in an announcement on the event website.

“The virtual event will take place from Friday 30 July to Sunday 1 August. There will be a number of competitions held throughout the conference and opportunities to engage with colleagues, speakers and exhibitors”.

Pharmacy Owners Congress 2021 not on

The event, organised by the Innovative Pharmacy Group and first held in 2019, was due to be held in the Hunter Valley from 5-8 August. It has again had to be cancelled due to COVID-19.

In a statement on their website, the group says: “Unfortunately due to the circumstances surrounding COVID-19, and despite all of our efforts to innovate and adapt, we couldn’t safely bring our delegates and world-leading speakers together.

As a result, and in true determination and grit to pursue something we are so passionate about, we’re bringing back POC in 2022.

Our aim is to bring the best-of-the-best minds in the country together to share ideas, experiences and techniques in an immersive environment. Any attempts to book by non-pharmacy owners, or those that do not fit our brief or requirements will be removed from our group.

Any payments made will be refunded noting that if payment is processed via credit card, you may forfeit any surcharges incurred”.

The latest news on Pharmacy Connect

One event that is still going ahead is Pharmacy Connect, to be held in Sydney from 2-4 September.

The organising committee says it has a “jam packed program now available”.

“If you want to build better pharmacist-patient connections, you can’t afford to miss this year’s Pharmacy Connect,” they said.

“The exciting program boasts an array of clinical, leadership and business content to support attendees to build better patient relationships and manage their pharmacy business in these rapidly changing times.

“Attendees can book with confidence and make the most of Early Bird savings, with Pharmacy Connect offering a refund guarantee. If attendees can’t travel due to COVID-19 restrictions, they will be able to either get a full refund or transfer their registration to another delegate.”
