Assembling a dispensary in the nick of time

Progress at the Christies Guild Pharmacy in Christies Beach, SA, was brought to a grinding halt on Thursday when Willach’s freight company called to say that arrival of the pharmacy’s FAMA Dispensary was delayed.

“The delay brought the entire pharmacy fit-out to a standstill. There were half a dozen trade jobs that couldn’t go ahead until our FAMA Dispensary had been installed,” says Willach Australia Managing Director John Koot.

“The owner, Michael, was understandably stressed trying to satisfy his customers and oversee a refit at the same time, so news that the delivery was delayed wasn’t ideal.”

Late Thursday afternoon, after many calls back and forth between Willach and the freight company, the delivery finally arrived. Alas, only half the stock had turned up.

“Unfortunately the freight company lost half our boxes, which meant our FAMA Dispensary system was incomplete and unable to be assembled,” Koot says.

“We knew we had to do everything we could to ensure the pharmacy was ready for customers to walk through the door at 9am the next day.”

With all freight and logistical options exhausted by 6pm on Thursday evening, Koot decided to take matters into his own hands.

He loaded his ute with the missing parts and began the drive from Melbourne to Christies Beach at 9pm, arriving at the pharmacy in the wee hours of Friday morning.

Running on sheer determination, and a few cups of strong coffee, Koot and Willach Solutions Consultant Simon Gerrits got to work assembling the dispensary and transferring stock.

When customers entered the pharmacy the next morning they were none the wiser.

Owner of Christies Guild Pharmacy, Michael Wakim, says Willach had gone above and beyond to ensure the refit was completed on time.

“Without John and Simon’s quick thinking and determination to help us get the job done, we would not have been ready to open in time. They dealt with an unexpected situation admirably,” Wakim says.

“If this is a sign of the level of service they provide, it’s clear we’ve chosen the right pharmacy solutions provider. They are determined to help their customers succeed and it’s obvious the customer always comes first.”
