Queensland Guild elects new branch president
North Queensland pharmacist Trent Twomey is the new President of the Queensland branch of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, with results from the recent election confirmed this week.
Mr Twomey, a former NAPSA president and inaugural Secretary General of the World Pharmacy Council, succeeds Tim Logan, who steps down after completing four terms in the position on 10 October.
He will head a revamped Queensland Guild executive, which includes former state president and former Guild national president Kos Sclavos, and the current of Pharmacy of the Year owner, Lucy Walker. The executive is:
- State President Trent Twomey
- Vice-President & National Councillor Chris Owen
- Vice-President Kos Sclavos AM
- Vice-President Rick Xynias
- Alternative National Councillor Lucy Walker
- Alternative National Councillor Vikesh Kumar
As well as his World Pharmacy Council role, Mr Twomey has served as a Guild national councillor since 2011, he is chair of the Northern Queensland Primary Health Network, and chair of Advance Cairns, a tropical North Queensland economic development group.
He has owned Good Price Pharmacy Warehouse Cairns since 2008.
State councillor Paul Jaffar, who was also running for branch President, said on social media that “I would just like to take this opportunity to sincerely congratulate Trent Twomey who ran a formidable campaign, on his victory and wish him well in taking on the important responsibility of Branch President”.
“I would like to thank everyone in a very heartfelt way, who assisted during the campaign. You know who you are and I am indebted to you and very grateful. I would also like to thank everyone who voted for me, and thank those who believe in the Guild and how important it has been, and will continue to be for the profession into the future.
I love the Guild and I love Pharmacy, and will find a way to continue making a contribution. It is a great honour itself to be part of the Queensland Branch Committee and to continue representing the Gold Coast”.
Meanwhile, AJP has heard unconfirmed reports that David Heffernan has defeated Rick Samimi in the NSW Guild branch election. We are seeking confirmation of this.
