Greg Hunt to stay on

After a whirlwind week in politics, Greg Hunt has managed to hold onto the Health portfolio

Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced his new ministry on Sunday, with some big changes including the absence of Julie Bishop, who has resigned as Foreign Affairs Minister.

Greg Hunt will be holding onto the Health portfolio in the new cabinet after tendering his resignation to former PM Malcolm Turnbull just a few days ago.

Minister Hunt was a supporter of Peter Dutton in the Liberal party leadership spill last week.

This decision will come as good news to AJP readers, who overwhelmingly voted Minister Hunt as their preferred choice for Health Minister.

In a poll run over the weekend (n = 143), the majority of respondents (42%) said they thought Greg Hunt should stay on as Health Minister.

Thirteen percent (18 votes) said they wanted Tony Abbott back in the job, while 8% wanted Sussan Ley back.

A further 8% said they’d like to see Julie Bishop in the role, and 6% thought Mathias Cormann would do well with the Health portfolio.

Zero percent of respondents thought Peter Dutton should be the next Health Minister, despite him having held this role from 2013-14.

Mr Dutton, who has re-taken his role as Minister for Home Affairs within the new ministry, was voted worst health minister in 35 years in poll of doctors.
