Honours for e-scripts

Fred IT receives 2020 Victorian iAward in recognition of its achievement with this year’s roll out of national electronic prescriptions

Fred IT has been recognised for its e-prescriptions innovation with an award for Business & Industry Solution of the Year at the 2020 Victorian iAwards held on Monday.

The group said it is “thrilled” with the recognition of its industry innovation with this year’s roll out of national electronic prescriptions.

The achievement of national electronic prescriptions via existing eRx Script Exchange infrastructure was achieved in six months in collaboration with the Department of Health, the Australian Digital Health Agency and over 90 industry vendors, including fellow Prescription Exchange Service, MediSecure, it said.

“While the iAward was amazing recognition for the Fred/eRx teams leadership role in e-prescriptions, it more widely celebrates the success of an industry wide collaboration which included dozens of IT companies, governments and stakeholders,” Fred CEO Paul Naismith told AJP.

“We are starting to see the benefits e-prescriptions deliver for patients, pharmacists and doctors in providing a safer and more convenient medication experience.”

The achievement of a national electronic prescriptions system is vital to modern healthcare delivery, and has been important in providing patients with greater flexibility in accessing medicines during the COVID-19 pandemic, said Fred IT.

“National electronic prescriptions provide Australians with the ability to submit their prescriptions to their pharmacy of choice, from anywhere, at any time, without having to leave home,” the group said.

Australia’s first paperless electronic prescription in primary care was successfully prescribed and dispensed in Victoria in early May. The rollout of the token model continues to progress throughout the country, with the Active Script List (ASL) model to be launched later this year.

Driven by the Australian Information Industry Association, the iAwards are Australia’s longest running and most broadly scoped innovation recognition program, promoting excellence in the Australian digital ecosystem.

Winners and merit recipients will go on to represent their state or territory at the National iAwards on 17 November 2020.

Fred IT is holding a free webinar at 7pm on Wed 14 October 2020 to introduce the MySL Active Script List. To register visit: https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/5124029160123756816
