HSD change reduces risk

Pharmacists are being advised to be aware of new PBS Online rejection codes

Starting from Sunday, 5 November 2017, PBS Online will reject claims made by pharmacies when these are not authorised to supply a prescription under the Highly Specialised Drug program restrictions.

When this occurs, the reason code message will tell pharmacists that the prescription cannot be claimed by this type of pharmacy.

The Department of Human Services says that this will reduce the risk for pharmacies which may accidentally supply HSD items when they are not entitled to a PBS payment.

Patients will need to visit a pharmacy that meets prescribing rules or return to the prescriber for an amended prescription.

Pharmacists can find more information here.

A spokesperson for the Pharmacy Guild says it has been advising pharmacies about the change in the leadup to Sunday’s change.

Apparently he is a “Happy pharmacist using the computer at the hospital” He has a heap of different angles available to download – even one using a phone… 🙂

I’m guessing he is either a student or an actor though – too fake.. Pharmacists are never that happy or chilled…
