What happened when rural and regional pharmacies went Back to the Future?
Narrabri Pharmacy in NSW is the first prize winner for Best Video in the Pharmacy Guild’s 2021 ‘Why I Love Rural Pharmacy’ video competition.
The competition, announced at the Australian Pharmacy Professional Conference on the Gold Coast, was open to rural, regional and remote pharmacies across Australia.
The second prize, the People’s Choice, was awarded to Taroom Pharmacy in Queensland.
Narrabri Pharmacy receives full registration to APP2022 as its prize, while Taroom Pharmacy receives a Guild Digital website build credit to the value of $300.
This year’s theme for the competition was Back to the Future and acknowledged that change can be daunting.
This has been especially evident over the past year with catastrophic events such as the bushfires and particularly COVID-19 requiring community pharmacies to change and adapt in a myriad of different ways, says the Pharmacy Guild.
There have been amazing and inspiring stories about community pharmacies, and their pharmacists and staff, stepping up to the plate to continue to offer much-needed and professional health services under the most challenging conditions, it says.
Pharmacists and their staff were asked to submit a 30-45 second video to enter.
The winners of Best Video and People’s Choice announced during the Rural Pharmacy and Indigenous Health Stream at APP2021.
They were asked to share how they have introduced change into their practice, reflecting on how things used to be done and how they’ve since adapted. They also were asked to use ‘practise’ and ‘practice’ interchangeably,
National President of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia Adjunct Professor Trent Twomey said delegates to APP regarded the viewing of the rural videos as a highlight.
“These videos are always fun, creative and innovative. But above all they reflect the passion and commitment that make our rural pharmacy sector so integral in the lives of the communities they serve,” he said.
