Naomi Murray from Mitchell Discount Pharmacy is the ACT GuildSuper Pharmacy Assistant of the Year.
Judges selected Naomi from seven other ACT finalists and she says it was a “big shock” because the other finalists “really excelled” at the yesterday’s workshop.
Naomi was nominated last year for the Award and did participate in the selection process but was unable to attend the workshop as she had to go overseas. Therefore, when she was nominated again this year, she says she wanted to take up the challenge.
She says one of best things about the workshop was being able to mingle and learn from other pharmacy assistants around the state.
“It was great because I learnt so much and got some interesting ideas from them. For example, how other pharmacies do health promotions,” Murray told our sister publication, Post Script.
Murray is second in charge at the pharmacy where she has worked for four years which has between eight and 10 staff, so she has quite a lot of responsibility. However, she says she loves her job, especially helping and dealing with customers.
“Customers make your day,” says Murray. “It is wonderful when you get loyal customers. For example, I might meet someone who comes in with their new baby and the next thing you know is that baby is now a little child walking—so you grow with them and that’s really rewarding to be part of that.”
Murrayis also keen to point out the win is not just for her personally, and says it’s win for the pharmacy.
“I couldn’t do my job without the team we have here; I learn from them every day.”
GuildSuper general manager, Teresa Mills, says the calibre of the PATY nominees is always extremely high which is a great indication of the outstanding pharmacy assistants who make a difference to so many lives.
“Congratulations to Naomi for her achievement; I am sure she will represent Mitchell and the ACT with pride.”
