Long-time community pharmacist and team win local business award
Nick Logan Pharmacist Advice has been recognised as ‘Outstanding pharmacy 2019’ in the North Shore Local Business Awards this week.
Mr Logan has been owner and manager of the pharmacy for nearly 25 years and is chuffed that his team was recognised.
“It was fantastic for us, and particularly because my team, we’d had extra challenges this year – not just with accelerated price disclosure, but the Chemist Warehouse moving into my market 60 metres up the road – so it’s been a real challenge for us,” he told AJP.
“Winning the award was great because our customers voted us in as a finalist, but also because the pharmacies are mystery shopped.
“The fact that random people can come in here and have an experience that makes them consider us an outstanding pharmacy, to me it’s fantastic.
“I’ve won lots of awards in a previous life but it’s been awhile, we really, really needed it.”
Mr Logan says a few years ago, he and the team realised that their pharmacy model was a service-based one.
“We basically sharpened all our tools. I spent money on a clinic, when I was getting a quote for it I was thinking, this might just be an $18,000 broom closet … it’s been the best money I’ve ever spent.
“We got accredited to do vaccinations. Last year we did 220 flu vaccines, this year we did 632. Things like that, compression socks, MedsChecks, all of those things, and with the help from coaching with our banner Pharmacist Advice our professional services are actually getting teeth and we’re getting better at them, there’s better health outcomes.
“I think everyone’s a winner, I really do. It’s like pharmacy’s transforming before our eyes now,” he said.
“I honestly think the next big change for pharmacy over the next five years is pharmacy services, pharmacy as a health destination – not just drug supply.”
