Pharmacists’ Support Service there for pharmacy over Christmas

The Pharmacists’ Support Service is reminding Australian pharmacists that it is available throughout the holiday period for pharmacists who need to talk about pressures facing them.

“Not everyone enjoys the festive season,” says the PSS. “Work pressures in pharmacy over the holiday period can be substantial with the end of the year ‘safety-net’ rush, Boxing Day sales and holiday crowds in tourist areas.

“In addition access to other health services such as medial practices is often limited and many people turn to their local pharmacist for advice.

“Many pharmacists do not have the opportunity to relax with family and friends. A sense of isolation can be exacerbated, especially if those around you are relaxing and celebrating and you are not.

“It can also be a time of the year when feelings of grief and loss are more intense. The New Year can bring anxiety about what the future holds.

“If your usual support systems are not available and you need to talk, the Pharmacists’ Support Service will be available to provide a listening ear throughout the holiday period from 8am to 11pm EST every day.”

Pharmacists can call 1300 244 910 for anonymous and confidential support from a pharmacist colleague over the phone.

There are also useful resources for pharmacists on the PSS website at www.supportforpharmacists.org.au.

PSS relies on the generosity of the profession to continue its work. It is also encouraging pharmacists to give a gift to the pharmacy profession by making a donation to PSS via the online portal which is linked to its website via the Donate Now button. All donations are tax deductible and a receipt will be issued.
