The call for abstracts for Medicines Management 2018 is now open, closing Friday 13 July

The SHPA has revealed that the theme for Medicines Management 2018, the 44th SHPA National Conference (MM2018) is: “It’s time”.

With the call for abstracts now open, closing Friday 13 July, pharmacists, technicians and pharmacy assistants, researchers and other health professionals are invited to shape the discourse at Australia’s largest scientific pharmacy conference across topics including leadership, clinical, workforce/practitioner development and digital/IT health.

Chief Executive Kristin Michaels says this year SHPA has an eye on the clock and an eye on the future.

“In 2018 we pose a simple question: Time is a precious commodity – how will you spend it?” says Ms Michaels.

“The theme ‘It’s time’ acknowledges that healthcare needs are evolving, our workforce is transforming, and every day across Australia pharmacists and technicians are creating more value and providing better patient care with less.”

Ms Michaels says MM2018 draws on both a rich history and a bright future.

“With the number submissions increasing in volume and quality every year, we encourage pharmacists and technicians to begin on their abstracts early.

“In discussing opportunities and challenges over four dynamic days, MM2018 will again, as it has for over five decades, provide a unique platform for Australia’s community of leading practitioners to elevate the pharmacy profession, and each other.”

Associate Professor Michael Barras, Chair of the Scientific Program Committee, says MM2018’s plenaries, seminars, interactive sessions and many networking opportunities will push pharmacists and technicians to think ahead of the curve.

“We’re excited at the conversations and innovations that will stem from our program, which challenges contributors and delegates to consider: Is it time to digitally disrupt? Time to take the lead as a technician or pharmacy assistant? Time to focus on your workplace wellbeing? Or time to step up into a new or emerging role to maximise your impact on patient care?”

MM2018 will run from Thursday 22 to Sunday 25 November 2018 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, view more information at
