Exam changes revealed

Changes announced to intern and KAPS examination dates, locations and structure

The Australian Pharmacy Council has released new advice about upcoming pharmacy examinations.

Among the new advice is notice that the Intern Written Examination will this year be available online, and is set to be shortened.

In an alert issued earlier this week, the APC announced that the October Intern Written Exam will be held from the 17 – 21 October 2020.

“The session will offer both event-based and online proctored delivery modes. This means candidates can sit the exam either in a test centre or in the comfort of their own home or office,” the alert stated.

The APC said the exam would now be shortened to a duration of 2 hours instead of 3 hours. It has a total of 75 questions.

Pharmacy Council CEO Bronwyn Clark said: “In April we advised that the June and July exam sessions were cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions. We truly felt for our candidates whose plans were suddenly disrupted and put on hold”.

“With this disruption has come great opportunity. In collaboration with Pearson VUE we now have the option to deliver the Intern Written Exam remotely,” she said.

The APC examwill used the online proctoring platform, OnVUE

Candidates can sit the online proctored exam anywhere that has:

  • a reliable device with a webcam
  • a strong internet connection, AND
  • a room where you will not be disturbed for the duration of the exam

Candidates can also still sit the standard event-based exam in a test centre.

The APC has been forced to reschedule the October Knowledge Assessment of Pharmaceutical Sciences (KAPS) examination to December 2020.

“We made this decision based on many factors outside of our control. Many test centres across the world are unavailable due to COVID-19 health restrictions,” it said in a separate alert.

“Going ahead with the October session would exclude many candidates from the opportunity to sit the exam. So, to the fairness of all candidates, we could not offer the October session”.

Dates and locations can be accessed here.
