The Chemist2U app has announced a $3 million seed funding boost

Chemist2U has closed a $3 million round of seed funding with AirTree Ventures investing into the start-up, it announced this week.

Following its launch in February 2021, Chemist2U says it continues to expand, with its community pharmacy partnership portfolio nearly reaching 200 nationwide.

This includes new partnerships in communities in NSW, WA, VIC, ACT, Tas and SA with regional towns including Mildura, Albany, Rockhampton and Armidale offering same day delivery service to community members.

Chemist2U will join AirTree’s portfolio of Australian technology companies which also includes Canva, Pet Circle and Hotdoc.

It says that the additional funding will help the company develop its platform, further servicing those on multiple prescription medications, resourcing and marketing investment.

It says its benefit to pharmacies includes boosting local health services, improving consumer access to timely medications and adherence, and enabling greater consumer acquisition and adoption via digital channels.

The mobile phone app and web-based platform streamlines access to prescription medication and OTC pharmacy-only items, and is aimed at delivering medicines to patients on the same day and mostly within hours of the order being placed.

Wendy Jin, pharmacist at Melbourne Docklands Centre Health, said that, “It is automation and technology for the greater good by bringing a new way of healthcare to patients”.

“And, while it may appear to have re-imagined the local community pharmacy, we will continue to counsel and touch base with every patient when an order is placed,” she said. “We want to ensure patients are familiar and know how to take their meds as their doctor intended.”

The app has been designed to match patients to their nearest pharmacy, with partner pharmacies automatically receiving orders placed via the app from customers within their catchment zone.

Chemist2U Founder, Dr Matthew Cullen, said that, “While the Covid-19 crisis significantly increased demand for healthcare products, eCommerce and home delivery services, we believe Chemist2U will drive sustainable growth for partner pharmacies well beyond the COVID-19 pandemic thanks to the rising popularity of purchasing over mobile platforms, especially among the new generation of digitally-savvy customers.

“As the ePrescription framework is progressively rolled out by the Government we will see a much greater adoption of digital channels in this sector.”
