The Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia has launched its first ever specialty conference on electronic medication management
The SHPA’s Electronic Medication Management Leadership Committee will be providing pharmacists and healthcare professionals with a new national event to network and sharpen their knowledge from the fundamentals to the advanced of this rapidly evolving field.
Registrations are now open for the 2019 Electronic Medication Management (EMM) Conference convened by James Grant and fellow members of SHPA’s EMM Leadership Committee, which will feature a mix of informative plenary sessions and interactive panel discussions over two concurrent streams, Saturday 22 June and Sunday 23 June in Sydney.
SHPA Chief Executive Kristin Michaels says the two-day program includes some of the best and brightest in the field.
“Recognising the complex and ever-changing nature of EMM, this conference provides an open opportunity for pharmacists and non-pharmacists to engage with leaders and peers outside the blockbuster Medicines Management SHPA National Conference in November,” says Ms Michaels.
“SHPA’s 2019 EMM Conference will feature a unique combination of expertise and experience from across Australian healthcare, including keynote speakers Richard Taggart, Chief Information Officer, Sydney Local Health District, whose digital journey has taken him via a role as Australia and New Zealand industry lead in healthcare for global tech giant Apple, and Melissa Baysari, Associate Professor in Digital Health in Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Sydney, who has published over 90 peer-reviewed articles – in Australia and internationally – and secured over $6 million in research funding in the area of health technology evaluation.”
Other headline speakers include Chris Leahy, Director, eHealth and Medication Safety, Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care; Dr Angus Ritchie, Chief Medical Information Officer, Sydney Local Health District; Director, Health Informatics Unit at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital; and Andrew Matthews, Director, Medicines Safety Program, Strategic Programs and Workplan Development Branch at the Australian Digital Health Agency, who will discuss the Pharmacist Shared Medication List – the first new type of clinical document in My Health Record in four years.
Ms Michaels says the conference is a must-attend not only for pharmacists who specialise in EMM, but for any health professional who wants to learn more about the impact EMM will have on the future of healthcare.
“Sessions range from the basics of medication histories, ordering, prescriptions and dispensing through to advanced areas such as clinical practice and workflows, clinical cases and complex analytics,” she says.
“With leading speakers and a dynamic and inclusive conference program for all levels, the 2019 EMM Conference promises to inform the pharmacy practices of tomorrow.”
The SHPA EMM Conference early bird registration rate closes Friday 3 May 2019.
