Bradman Oval match ends pharmacy cricket season in style

The final match of the 2018/19 Pharmacy Cricket season took place last weekend on a glorious autumn day at historic Bradman Oval at Bowral in the NSW Southern Highlands.

In a hard fought game, success went to the Newcastle invitation team, skippered by Nathan Blackmore.

Batting first, Newcastle were dismissed for 161, with Christian Hernandez top scoring with 25 in an even batting effort. Peter McHale led the bowling with 3 for 26, while opening bowler Will Clayton took 2 for 16 (including dismissing a certain pharmacy editor for a second-ball duck in the first over).

The Sydney team came close in response, but fell a few runs short for 149. Brad Kayani top scored with 41 (retired – obligatory at 40 runs), and Steve Thompson hit 29 not out.

Newcastle’s bowling was spearheaded by Brenton Hart who produced the outstanding figures of 3 for 6 off 8 overs (including 6 maidens).

As for a certain pharmacy editor, he did bowl a tidy 0/1 off 1 over…..

Brad Kayani was adjudged Man of the Match, despite Hart’s bowling heroics, receiving the award from Peter O’Reilly.

Newcastle captain Nathan Blackmore receives the trophy from Pharmacy Cricket patron and former Australian test cricket captain Brian Booth.
