10 key statistics from the latest Pharmacy Board of Australia quarterly registration data

  1. As of 30 June there were 30,360 registered pharmacists
  2. 27,544 of these held general registration (plus 1709 provisional, 10 postgrad training or supervised practice)
  3. 1097 are registered as non-practising
  4. 12,292 pharmacists are aged between 25 and 34 years
  5. 849 are aged 70 years and over (123 aged over 80 years). 696 of these hold general registration (71 aged over 80) 
  6. 61.9% of pharmacists are female (In March 2012, 57.29% of pharmacists were female)
  7. Northern Territory has the highest proportion of female pharmacists (64.9%), closely followed by the ACT (64.6%)
  8. Tasmania has the highest proportion of male pharmacists (40.8%). SA and NSW are next with 38.7%
  9.  There are 3,926 more pharmacists than there were in March 2012 (26,434)
  10. Pharmacist numbers in NSW and Victoria have both increased by more than 1000 over this period
