Poll: the biggest challenge in rural pharmacy

What’s the biggest challenge facing pharmacists in rural, regional and remote pharmacies?

It’s long established that while the rewards can be significant, there are also challenges for the profession in pharmacies outside the major cities.

This year’s Rural Pharmacy Forum at APP saw a roomful of rural pharmacists discuss some of these problems: from allowances to their customers’ tendency to bypass them for pharmacies in big rural centres which offer the $1 copayment discount.

And the issue of finding and keeping staff remains: earlier this month LocumCo’s Sue Muller wondered why it’s so hard to attract pharmacists to rural and regional areas.

If you work in or own a pharmacy outside one of the capital cities, we’d like to hear from you. What’s your single biggest challenge? And after you’ve told us, check out the entries for the Guild’s Rural Pharmacy Video Competition to cheer yourself back up.
