A Guild Pharmacy of the Year finalist is also up for three Priceline Pharmacy franchise awards, with the results to be announced soon

Priceline Pharmacy Wetherill Park in NSW, run by proprietors Catherine Bronger and John Bronger, is a finalist for Priceline Pharmacy of the Year, while its staff members are finalists for Priceline Retail Manager of the Year (Linda Bontempo) and Priceline Pharmacist of the Year (Nancy El-Miski).

They were winners of the NSW Priceline Pharmacy franchise awards.

Catherine Bronger tells AJP it’s been a “hard slog” getting the pharmacy up and running, and shortlisting as national finalists has been great recognition for the team.

Linda Bontempo is a finalist for Priceline Retail Manager of the Year.

Ms Bronger’s family had owned a ChemistWorks pharmacy in the Stockland Wetherill Park Shopping Centre for about twenty years, when an opportunity came up to build a second pharmacy.

She and her father opened a Priceline Pharmacy where a franchise store was, added a medical centre and “pretty much struggled for three or four years”.

“It was a hard slog, the team were exceptional, the store looked good, the customer engagement was second to none,” she says.

“We were really running both the pharmacies hard up against each other and were driving more pharmacy traffic to the centre, but the Priceline store was just not taking off like we knew it should have, especially when the centre was thrown into a 26-month redevelopment.

“Just over two years ago, at the end of a very challenging redevelopment, we moved the store into a better position and all the hard work started to pay off.

“The team were empowered with the new traffic flow, the disciplines came into fruition and the nurturing and training the managers had put into their teams really shone through in some incredible uplifts in sales that have been sustained over several years now.”

The pharmacy runs multi-discipline healthcare professional seminars, mystery bus tours for top patients, supermarket healthy choice tours, and an Impromy program.

“Our manager of the year is a diabetes educator and trainer, she takes customers through the shops to show them what to buy…. It’s really going above and beyond,” says Ms Bronger.

“It’s been a hard slog starting the business, surviving the redevelopment and moving locations but it’s satisfying knowing the staff, who are the heartbeat of Priceline, are getting the recognition they deserve. We couldn’t be prouder.”

Winners of the Priceline Pharmacy franchise awards will be announced in June.

Last year’s winners were:

Priceline Pharmacy Potts Point – Store of the Year

Nicole Watt from Priceline Pharmacy Bridgewater (Tas) – Retail Manager of the Year

Michael Alexander from Priceline Pharmacy Gisborne (Vic) – Pharmacist of the Year

Meanwhile five community pharmacies have been named as the finalists in this year’s Guild Pharmacy of the Year Awards, with the winners to be announced at the APP 2018 conference in early May.
