A Queensland community pharmacist has been recognised in local Australia Day awards

Karen Brown has been honoured with a Small Business Person of the Year award, presented by her local MP Peter Dutton on 26 January.

Ms Brown is the managing partner of TerryWhite Chemmart Samford and TerryWhite Chemmart Arana Hills, which are both located in the Division of Dickson, Queensland.

The award recognised her leadership, entrepreneurship and dedication to the community.

“What an honour to be recognised in the Dickson Australia Day Awards,” said Ms Brown.

“To be recognised for your dedication and hard work is always nice, as it is not why we do what we do,” she told AJP.

“But to be nominated for an award by your community is truly humbling and in a way confirms what we are doing to improve the health and wellbeing of our community and redefine how they view their community pharmacy is working!”

“[It’s] an accolade that can only be achieved with the amazing work of my pharmacy teams, in a year we stood tall and proud, and the incredible support of my family, business partners, friends and colleagues.”

Ms Brown is a multi-award winner. She was the TerryWhite Chemmart Pharmacist of the Year in 2018.

Her Samford pharmacy won both the 2018 TerryWhite Chemmart National Pharmacy of the Year award and the 2016 Guild Pharmacy of the Year – Community Engagement category.

She was also a finalist for the Rhonda White Leadership Award in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
