TWC joins with buy-now, pay-later ‘pioneer’

TerryWhite Chemmart has announced a new exclusive national pharmacy partnership with Afterpay following a successful trial

TerryWhite Chemmart has formed a new exclusive national retail pharmacy partnership with buy-now pay-later pioneer Afterpay, it announced on Monday.

The partnership with Afterpay will create yet another avenue to allow more customers to shop in TerryWhite Chemmart pharmacies, said TerryWhite Chemmart CEO Duncan Phillips.

“Everything we do at TerryWhite Chemmart is to drive greater value to our network partners and to TerryWhite Chemmart customers,” said Mr Phillips.

“After feedback from customers, we have conducted a trial of Afterpay in a group of selected pharmacies with impressive results.

“With an affiliated marketing program that can provide strong referrals each month and access to an active and loyal customer base of 2.9 million ANZ customers, we are helping our pharmacies extend their marketing reach to drive new customers through their doors,” he said.

“Along with our partnerships with Qantas Frequent Flyer and Bupa, the Afterpay partnership is just another way we are providing real value to our network partners.”

Mathew Cagney, head of Healthcare at Afterpay, said the organisation’s customers have been requesting for the service to be made available in pharmacies for some time.

“In an independent survey conducted in July 2019 by YouGov Galaxy, 10.9 million Australians said they would use Afterpay to pay for healthcare products and services and 24% said they were most likely to use Afterpay to pay for pharmacy products,” said Mr Cagney.

“It certainly makes sense to us and our loyal Afterpay customer base to be partnering with a large pharmacy brand like TerryWhite Chemmart.”

Afterpay allows customers to split their pharmacy purchases into four interest-free instalments.

While the trial did not include prescriptions, Afterpay will now be offered on all pharmacy products in TerryWhite Chemmart pharmacies, including prescriptions.

The service is currently being set up in all TerryWhite Chemmart pharmacies with an up-to-date list of stores available here.

To date Afterpay’s site lists four pharmacy retailers: TerryWhite Chemmart, Chemist Warehouse, Pharmacy Online, and Chemistdirect.com.au.
