An inspiring winner

Innovative Pharmacist of the Year prize goes to member of award-winning Canberra pharmacy team

The award-winning team from Capital Chemist Waniassa has scooped the pool with pharmacy honours and awards in 2017.

And now, the team has another trophy with Kayla Lee being crowned as the 2017 UTS Innovative Pharmacist of the Year award at a function at NSW Parliament House, Sydney.

Kayla, a first-year registered professional services pharmacist who is currently studying a Graduate Certificate in Mental Health, was recognised for her ground-breaking work in the mental health area.

The ‘Pharmafriend’ mental health program Kayla set up sees their qualified pharmacists providing three one-on-one appointments across the first three months of treatment, to provide in-depth information about mental wellbeing.

Kayla, who spoke passionately about her family experiences with mental health issues as inspiring her work in this area, was recently voted at number seven in AJP‘s ’10 Rising Stars of Pharmacy’ reader survey.

She was presented the UTS Innovative Pharmacist of the Year award by NSW Education Minister Rob Stokes, who spoke of the important role of pharmacists in the community.

Elise Apolloni, co-owner of Capital Chemist Waniassa (the 2017 Pharmacy of the Year) was also at the event, and spoke of her pride in her team member for setting up the program.
