Pitchfork-wielding robber charged

A man attempted to rob a Palmwoods pharmacy armed with a pitchfork, Queensland police allege.

It will be alleged that around 2.44pm, a man armed with a pitchfork entered the Margaret Street pharmacy and demanded prescription drugs from an employee before attempting to flee with several boxes of medication.

When he tried to run, customers inside the pharmacy closed a glass door and it will be alleged that he then smashed the door using the pitchfork.

He ran away but was caught by passers-by in a nearby street.

The man, a 36-year-old from Narangba, was taken into custody by police and charged with enter premises with intent, armed robbery and wilful damage.

He will appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday, August 8.

Police are appealing for members of the public who assisted in the apprehension of the man earlier today to contact Crime Stoppers or Maroochydore CIB on 54752428.

Anyone with information which could assist with this matter should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au.
