One person has been tipped to replace Sussan Ley as minister for health, aged care and sport
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is expected to announce Ley’s replacement early this week, with Senator Arthur Sinodinos the likely candidate to replace Sussan Ley.
Mr Sinodinos is currently standing in as Acting Minister for Health and Aged Care, and Minister for Sport.
Mr Turnbull has stated he wants a “minimalist” reshuffle following Ms Ley’s resignation on Friday over the travel expenses scandal, with Mr Sinodinos being the choice that amounts to the least change to the ministry line-up.
Tony Abbott delivered a scathing critique of the government on Saturday, in an opinion piece in the The Australian – just as Mr Turnbull began discussions on who would fill the health portfolio.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Mr Abbott would not have been considered for the vacancy, but his comments over the weekend are” set to end any hope he had of a return to the cabinet” under Mr Turnbull.
